If you've spent years selling over the phone or on video — managing a pipeline, living on variable comp, closing without a script telling you what to say — the mechanics of this role will feel familiar. What changes is the product and the people you're helping. The Wood Agency has a fully remote sales opening worth understanding if you're curious where your existing skills could take you.

What you'll actually do

  • Sell life insurance to families who asked to be contacted — 100% remote, paid through commission as a 1099 independent contractor.
  • Reach out to people who submitted a coverage request. Exclusive lead systems available.
  • Run scheduled phone or video appointments to understand a family's situation before walking them through any options.
  • Present suitable coverage from The Wood Agency's carrier network and complete the application together with the client.
  • Log conversations and activity in a CRM as they happen — the pipeline habits you already have carry over directly.
  • See each case through to an issued policy, keeping the client informed while it works through underwriting.

Who this is a fit for

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Phone and video closers who can explain a product in plain language and let the client make their own decision.
  • People who already live in a CRM and follow up without being chased to do it.
  • Someone who doesn't yet hold a life insurance license but will get one in place before their first sale.
  • Self-directed — you set your own schedule, and you actually keep it.
  • Comfortable with commission-based income from prior roles and not relying on a guaranteed paycheck to get started.

What we provide

  • The Wood Agency is an independent agency contracted with 43 carriers across all 50 states — not a lead vendor, not a single-carrier shop, so the right product for a client is usually actually available.
  • Mentorship available to new agents: 1:1 support, scripts, call reviews, and ride-alongs as you build your footing.
  • A clear onboarding target — licensed by the end of week two, contracted and making sales calls by the end of month one.

The honest part

This is commission-based 1099 work — no base salary and no guaranteed income. If a paycheck needs to land regardless of what you close, this isn't the right move right now. If you've carried a number before, know how to build a book from scratch, and want remote work that's actually built around serving clients for the long haul — not just closing and moving on — The Wood Agency is worth a real conversation. Apply and we'll walk you through exactly how the comp works.
