This role is remote — the markets are where we are actively recruiting.
- Pay
- Commission-only, 1099 independent contractor — no base salary, no hourly wage
- License
- Not required to apply — you will need a state license before your first sale
- Where
- Remote anywhere in the US · actively recruiting in 40 markets across 25 states
- Applying takes
- About two minutes — name, email, phone, whether you hold a license, optional résumé
- Who reads it
- A person at The Wood Agency Life, not an automated screen
The rate hike didn't send a memo. One quarter your pipeline was solid; the next it wasn't — and nobody called it a layoff. The financial conversations you've been having with families for years still have somewhere to go. This is 100% remote.
The Wood Agency is an independent agency contracted with 43 carriers across all 50 states — not a single-carrier shop, not a lead vendor.
What you'll actually do
- Sell life insurance to families who requested contact, remotely, as a 1099 contractor compensated by commission — not a salaried role.
- Review each family's submitted request and reach out to schedule a remote conversation — no cold lists, no door knocking.
- Open the call by understanding their situation before you say a word about a product — budget, what they're protecting, what's already in place.
- Walk through suitable options and complete an application together when it makes sense.
- Stay on the case after submission, tracking status and keeping the client informed until the policy issues.
- Keep the CRM current and stay sharp on the products, carriers, and compliance standards that govern this work.
Who this is a fit for
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Background in mortgage, lending, or real estate — variable income is already how you operate
- Can hold a professional phone or video call and explain a financial product in plain language without losing someone
- Organized enough to manage cases in different stages at the same time without letting one go quiet
- Getting a state life insurance license before your first sale — it's a real exam, and the agency can walk you through what the process looks like in your state
- Self-directed: support is available here, but no one is managing your calendar
What we provide
- A clear month-one structure: most new agents are licensed by week two, contracted and trained by week three, and on calls by the end of the first month
- Weekly team calls, script reviews, and ride-along opportunities available through established agents
- 1:1 mentorship available directly through Ben and Andrea, who built The Wood Agency and still work it themselves
The honest part
This is commission-based 1099 work — there is no salary and no guaranteed pay. If you're already stretched from a slow market and need a paycheck that shows up regardless of production, this isn't the right move right now. But if working on variable income is already normal for you and you want to bring that discipline somewhere fully remote with real people behind you, apply and we'll walk through exactly how The Wood Agency works — and if it isn't a fit, we'll say so.
